How to celebrate Father’s day in lockdown

Father’s day is just around the corner, so you might want to start thinking about ways to celebrate one of the most special men in your life, your dad. Thanks to the coronavirus lockdown, your celebrations might look a little different from previous years, but there are still plenty of amazing ways for you to show your dad how important he is.

Breakfast in bed

Breakfast in bed is obligatory on Fathers day, right? Food + a lie in – what’s not to love?! This is a great idea for the kids to get involved in too. Put on the works with a full English, or keep it simple with toast and a brew – either way, it’s sure to put a smile on any Dad’s face.

A family facetime

If you have a large family, you might not be able to see each other face to face just yet, you can, however, share your day virtually. A big extended family video chat is just as good as a meetup – try out Zoom, Facetime, Skype or Facebook video chat.

If you’re all over the age of 18, you could even turn this into a virtual pup quiz! Plan your questions, get the pints in and allow your dad to real off his famous dad jokes in between rounds.

Get out and about

There’s nothing like the great outdoors – especially when the sun is shining. Dig out the walking boots and take your dad on a hike, there are loads of great routes around here. If long walks aren’t really your old man’s thing, why not go on a countryside picnic or a day out to the beach – weather dependant of course.

Prepare a home-cooked meal

What’s the best way to a man’s heart? Through his stomach of course! If you live with your dad, put your cooking skills to the test and rustle up a meal featuring his absolute favourite foods. You could even take the night up a level by adding a cuisine theme – Italian, Mexican, American or good old English perhaps. Nothing says I love you quite like home cooking.

Order a takeaway

If you lack the culinary skills to make a top-notch meal, why not order a takeaway instead? You can’t beat a Sunday night Chinese right? Or perhaps a Dominos is more your thing, no matter what you choose, good food always equals good mood!

Don’t forget to get your father figure a thoughtful gift and card to mark the occasion, and enjoy the day!
