The next step is Upper Buckshaw where our children continue to build on skills gained in Lower Buckshaw, and introducing new skills to explore and investigate in order to increase independence in a safe and stimulating environment. Children will move into this room around their 3rd birthday, again, just as and when each child is ready.
Play becomes more investigative now with new activities being introduced such as ‘mark-making’ and looking at letters and numbers in our environment. In order to promote a new understanding of the environment, the surrounding space is filled with colourful displays including examples of children’s work.
In Upper Buckshaw we also prepare your child for primary school and introduce sounds, letters of the week and numbers so your child is familiar when they eventually leave nursery to go onto primary school.
The key working system continues in this room making the transition as smooth as possible. The development files are also continued through to upper Buckshaw following again the prime and specific area of learning:
Three Prime Areas:
Four Specific Areas:
Your child’s new key worker will work along side their previous key worker from Lower Buckshaw in order to determine each child’s stage of development and individual needs.
NB The staff ratio in Upper Buckshaw is a maximum of 1 qualified staff member of staff to 8 children.
